My Beer

How I Made Pale Ale #1 (Power Out):

I started by sanitizing all my equipment so the beer doesn't get "infected". Next I loosened up the Liquid Malt Extract (LME) in some hot water. This makes it easier to stir in later. At the same time I was seeping my malted grains in that big pot on the right of the stove.

After a good 45 minutes of seeping I added my LME.

I also added my Dry Malt Extract (DME) and my hops. This takes a lot of stirring and patience so that the brew doesn't get too hot and overflow. The whole house reeks of malts at this point.

Next you add the mixture to the fermentation bucket, add lots of cold water and top it off with yeast. If you don't know how it works the malts create sugars as they are steeped. The yeast than eats these sugars, which creates alcohol. The hops are for flavor and smell. Then I sat the bucket in the corner for two weeks and let it turn into beer.

The Wife's parents were in town for the weekend I was bottling so my Father-In-Law, Davie, helped me out. Here he is syphoning the beer into the bottling bucket.

After that we bottled the beer in 22oz. Bombers. I like the bigger bottles so thats what I bought.

Next we capped the bottles so that the carbonation would build up and make this beer drinkable. This was fun.

Here we have the finished product! I'll be making another batch Memorial Day weekend I hope!
