Day 84: Samuel Adams Octoberfest

Name: Samuel Adams Octoberfest
Brewer: Boston Beer Company (Boston, MA)
Classification: Marzen
Alcohol: 5.3%

Thoughts: Today is the beginning of the best month in beer. And while the real Oktoberfest in Munich started last week I am about to have my own version of it. Every beer that I have this month will fit into these three categories: 1. It is an Octoberfest style beer (Marzen), 2. It will be a pumpkin beer, 3. It will be a beer featured at the real Oktoberfest. The first one will also be the first and only beer from Sam Adams. Sam Koch is a cock and a phony craft brewer who got lucky making a good Marzen style brew, they call it Samuel Adams Octoberfest. So that is the only reason I will allow his bullshit to grace my glorious beer blog. And yes, it was poured in an Abita glass. This German style Marzen pours a dark copper with a basic white head that had so much carbonation it stuck around most of the drinking experience. The aroma smells like it has toffee, caramel and toasted malts, which is pretty basic for Marzen style beers. The taste harped on similar things with a nice touch of sweetness and floral hops added to the mix. I started with this because it is a very traditional and very solid Octoberfest style beer. I think it is a perfect start for somebody not familiar with this great month of beer.
